About Laz
My name is Bill Lasley. I was born in Baltimore, MD in May 1975. I picked up the nickname Laz in high school and it has stuck with me since. Most people pronounce my last name Laz-lee. It's actually pronounced Las-lee. The Laz-lee ended up getting shortened to Laz, and there you have it. At this point, it's become how most people know me, and I kind of like it now.
I am a single father and a singer/songwriter. I have been signing since about age 4 or 5. I sang all through school, in church and eventually in bands.
I have always loved singing and performing. When ever life seemed to get me down, I turned to music. It's my addiction. I'm not a heavy drinker, I don't smoke, and I don't use drugs. I use...music. I can get lost in a song. Music speaks to me. I whole-heartedly believe music is the universal language. It can help heal. It can make you smile, remember a good time, remind you of a bad time, it can make you cry; it can make you feel what the artist wants you to feel. It truly transcends.
I have had the privilege of listening to and being influenced by some of the greatest performers, singers and songwriters ever. My influences are: George Strait, Garth Brooks, Gary LeVox (of Rascal Flatts), Jason Aldean, Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, and of course the late, great George Jones on the country side. On the rock, top 40 side, my influences are: Steve Perry (who is my idol), Bon Jovi, Geddy Lee, Sebastian Bach (of Skid Row), Scott Stapp, Axl Rose, Robert Plant and David Lee Roth.
I have wanted to do a solo project for years and at the encouragement of some of my closest friends, I decided to give it a shot. Over the few last years, I have started to write my own lyrics and put some of them to music. Interestingly enough, all of the songs I have written have a country/ soft rock feel. I seem to have a voice for soft rock and ballads and a mind for country music. I love the life lessons music teaches and the emotion it can convey. With the help of my guitar instructor and my son, I was able to put three of my originals to music this year! I'm working on several more and hope to complete the full CD very soon.
With a little bit of luck, the continued blessings of the Lord above, maybe just maybe, I'll have the honor of performing on stage in front of thousands of people who know the lyrics to my songs. If George Strait or Garth Brooks or Steve Perry were right next to me that wouldn't be so bad either! In fact, it would be my dream come true.
Thank you so much for your love and support!
Faithfully,
Laz
